Thoughts for Today

I’ve been a bit quiet lately, between prepping for the holidays, writing and editing only the necessary promo wins out. I know I should have a post on this blog every few days, but goodness. Sometimes it gets tedious. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy sharing my thoughts and opinions.

There has been a recurring theme I’ve seen with companies. It’s like they do everything they can to court you and once you’ve signed on the dotted line they peel away the makeup and you’re left with a pale imitation of what should’ve been. When I worked in a call center as a customer service rep, we were taught to under promise and over deliver. That way if the situation took longer than expected the company and customer were still satisfied. We were taught communication. I have to tell you, this is my biggest pet peeve with companies.

Both  I and my sister are dealing with companies that believe avoidance is the best way to communicate. Where a simple email, text, or gasp phone call with diffuse our frustration very nicely. A simple, “We need to postpone,” or “Let’s try this a different way,” would go a long way into curbing the resentment we currently have for these companies.

Follow through. Yeah we were taught that too. Did you check to make sure what you said was going to happen, happen? Or did you just say, “I started the ball rolling, that’s enough.”

Many of the above reasons are why I do things myself, why I only rely on a few trusted individuals and stay loyal to a few choice brands. These companies and individuals have stood the test of time and delivered on their promises. And for those that haven’t…I’m counting the days until I can evict them from my life. I can do bad all by myself.

Mistletoe Blues Cover Reveal

YAY! I have shiny new cover art. Here ya go. Coming soon from Whispers Publishing.

Jackson Holt wants to surprise his girlfriend, Meredith with the wedding of her dreams, but a jealous co-worker is bent on keeping the lovebirds apart.

Meredith Baxter is overjoyed at the prospect of a Christmas Eve wedding. When the groom goes missing just moments before the ceremony, she’s left to wonder if it’s a case of cold feet or something much more sinister.

Mistletoe Blues and Winters’ Thaw

A lot has been going on the last week or so. Thanksgiving is a week away. More new releases are headed my way. I have two more before the end of the year…hopefully. Right now I’m at a place where I’m not sure if I want to run away, hide or stick it until the end…but that’s life.

So let’s talk books. Upcoming releases…Mistletoe Blues from Whispers Publishing. The cover is sexy, but I’m waiting on a clean copy to reveal. So here’s the blurb.

And the second release I have, Winters’ Thaw from Evernight Publishing, December 7, I can show the cover and give you a blurb.

The holidays can be murder. Someone is out to kill Michaela Winters, but she has more important things to worry about, arguing with her husband and when to tell him he’s going to be a father come to mind.

Brockridge Logan realizes the mistake he’s made and he’s willing to make amends. His solution is to whisk her away to their cabin up north where he can seduce and keep her safe.

When an ice storm closes the roads and traps them in the middle of nowhere for the duration of the holidays. A marriage will be mended, but will it be too late with a killer on the loose.

That’s what I’ve been up to. Oh and I’ve got a sexy free read coming in January. 🙂

Until next time, Indulge Your Inner Romantic.

Release Day-Stealing Christmas

One of the neat things about this story, is it’s ripped from the headlines. Maybe not any major headlines, but it still made the news and a television show. All it takes is one itty bitty spark to set an idea into motion, before it flares to life. What would happen if a business walked away from hundreds of safety deposit boxes and they remained unclaimed? What if one really a priceless treasure? Would you don a Santa suit and try to bring a little Christmas cheer or may something a little more sinister?

Secrets abound in Benson’s Bakery. A crazed Santa wants something valuable hidden inside the building, and only two things stand in his way…Jake and Sara.

When Sara Henderson receives threatening letters just days before Christmas, she asks sexy bread baker Jake Benson for help. Jake is more than happy to provide the muscle to keep the beautiful cake decorator from harm, but he has an ulterior motive–to steal a kiss under the mistletoe. Sara wants that kiss as much as he does, but first they have a mystery to solve.

Will they find out who is stalking Sara, or will Santa succeed in stealing Christmas?

Sara loved the ease of being with Jake. She held his arm, strolling down the snow-covered sidewalks after dinner. A few flakes fluttered to the ground and the crisp wind danced them across the slippery maroon bricks in the street. Dense green garlands wound around black wrought iron lamp posts. Bright emerald wreaths with big red velvet bows hung on buildings or in windows. Blinking multi-colored lights vied with streetlights and traffic. The city was dressed for Christmas.

When Sara sighed, Jake glanced at her. “You okay?”

“When is the last time you walked downtown Flint without being afraid?”

“Good question. Downtown Development Authority has increased its patrols.”

“They have. Downtown is probably the only place in the city that’s safe.”

He chuckled. “Right, right.”

Sara stumbled, instinctively reaching for Jake. He caught her arm and dragged her against his strong lean frame. She peered into his eyes, their faces inches apart. Her heart hammered at his nearness. “You have this incredible knack for coming to my rescue.”

“I never could resist a damsel in distress.”

“My hero.”

“You can’t look at me that way when you say things like that.”

She moved her hands to the front of his coat. “Why not?”

He brought his lips to hers, giving her the only answer she needed.

Soapbox Rant-Time

I started these rants on Facebook, sometime ago. I needed a way to vent my frustration and still remain professional. Sometimes these rants will make you laugh, sometimes they may make you angry  and hopefully they will always make you think. From time to time, I’ll share the rants on my blog at least the ones I deem too much for Facebook. So prepare yourself. As always, you’ve been warned.

*steps on soapbox taps microphone* There are many things that a career minded author juggles, day/night jobs, family, promo, marketing, word counts, deadlines, low/high sales, rejection, acceptance, sickness, locust, floods, fires and Acts of God. Sometimes writing must take a backseat until life smooths out and there’s nothing wrong with that. However when life takes over and you’re caught unprepared, maybe it’s time to take a step back and reevaluate what’s going on. Have you taken on more responsibility than time truly allows. Sometimes you have to say ‘no’ and often waiting to the last minute to do something is an indicator that you could be overwhelmed or you haven’t managed your time. Yes, mistakes happen, I make them all the time and learn from them. If I think I’m gonna miss my mark, you better believe I’m telling somebody. I demand the best, because I strive to give you my best. *steps off soapbox and trips over microphone cord* I’m okay.
